I use Google Reader as my RSS Aggregator for a while now, and I LOVE it. Why tell you this? Well, I’ve subscribed to the feed for WebProNews.com and just after writing the previous post on building links using Trackbacks, I read a post about “Strategic Commenting Can Build Blog Traffic“. This lead me to the post featured entitled “Strategic Commenting: No blog is an island“.

I fully recommend you read it, because it outlines in a very interesting way a good method for building links using trackbacks.

And, to explain the title of this post: Find as much info that you can, and read it. It will definitely help…

Trackbacks – More linking for SEO

Ok, so in the previous post, “SEO Linking (to yourself)“, I explain about how a good link contains relevant text.

Another nice way of linking is using “trackbacks”. Here’s a definition according to the Wikipedia:

TrackBack is a mechanism for the communication between blogs: if a blogger writes a new entry commenting on, or referring to, an entry found at another blog, and both blogging tools support the TrackBack protocol, then the commenting blogger can notify the other blog with a “TrackBack ping”; the receiving blog will typically display summaries of, and links to, all the commenting entries below the original entry. This allows for conversations spanning several blogs that readers can easily follow.

In simple english, if you comment ABOUT someone else’s post in your post, and you have a link to this post, the other blog should display this as a trackback, as well as displaying a short summary of what you’ve written.

Believe me, this is a VERY good way to get visitors to your site. If your post title is intriguing, and your summary interesting, you might see quite an influx of visitors.

Now, how to get these visitors to stay………???

You might ask: “How do you link to yourself?”

And I might answer: “There are numerous ways, for example, when leaving comments on other people’s blogs”

Ok, ok, it’s not just about linking to yourself, as good as that might seem. It’s about creating relevant links whenever you do link.

But, what is this “RIGHT” way of linking? I’ve read many an article on how MSN, Yahoo, and the other minor Search Engines like Google use the actual text in a link to determine link relevance.

For example, saying something like:

Click here to read more info on SEO

just doesn’t have the same effect as:

Read an article on how Mesothelioma is good for making money

So, next time you link to an article on this blog, give the Search Engines a bit of relevance. 😉

Ok, so making money reading sounds like a really easy way to make money. BUT, you probably landed on this page searching for a way to make money, and I say, read what you can on this site, and continue on your way…

I don’t mean that you won’t find a way to make money on this site, I just mean that you must read as much as you can as quickly as you can. There are a LOT of sites out there that deal with how to make money. For example, MSN Money is a good resource. They have interesting articles on saving money, and investing money, etc…

Then there are the sites out there that teach you how to start online businesses.

If you feel generous, please donate 30 seconds of your time and leave a comment about what you expected to find on this site. What I hoped to give was an alternative way of making money. I just hope it’s at least something new… If you’ve previously found an interesting way to make money, please let me know. I LOVE “useless knowledge”, because it never is…

Microsoft Money 2006 is a software package that I wish I could use. Here’s why:

1 – Track what money comes in and what goes out
2 – Charts to see what you are spending your money on
3 – Forecasting your cashflow

Not major features you’d think, but I TOTALLY believe that to make money you have to manange your money. And that means knowing what you have at all times.

Why can’t I use Microsoft Money 2006? Well, I could, but most of the cool features don’t apply exactly to a person in South Africa, like the tax features, and the integration into your bank accounts.

Oh, and the fact that Amazon doesn’t ship it to South Africa. (Of course, one of you kind readers would have bought it as a present, right…?)

I’ve looked at hundreds of WordPress themes, and I have to say, Crimson Sunrise is the most technically advanced I’ve seen yet.

– If you add pages, it adds tabs to the top.
– It comes with built in functions for doing things you’d normally have to hunt the Codex for
– It Looks GREAT

Either way, I think I’ve found my new favourite theme for WordPress.

Have you ANY idea what “Mesothelioma” means? As the post “Mesothelioma: the one word every AdSense publisher knows?” by Eric Giguere mentions, it is a dreadful disease shown to be caused by Asbestos dust. There is an article on the Globe and Mail site giving details of a case regarding someone dying from the disease.

WHY would I write about Mesothelioma on a site dedicated to Making Money (and easy money at that)??? Well, in my opinion, there are 2 people trying to make money from this word:

TORT LAWYERS:

In my opinion, these are the most evil of lawyers because they APPEAR to be helping people, but they actually don’t. If they represent you in a class action suit against a company, they need as many people as possible to join the class action. Reason: They get a percentage of the claim. 30% may not seem like a lot, but when you get a $10,000 payout from a company, you’re only getting $7,000, and the lawyer gets $3,000. Now, if there are 4,500 people making claims as I believe there are for Mesothelioma, you STILL only get $7,000, but the lawyer is getting $13,500,000… How nice of him.

ADSENSE PUBLISHERS:

Maybe not anymore, but it was thought that back in the day you could make $10 a click if you had Ads related to Mesothelioma. I HIGHLY doubt that’s the case now. I’m sure there are thousands of sites out there totally dedicated to the topic of Mesothelioma, and we all now what over-supply and low demand do to prices…

Increase AdSense Cost Per Click – Guaranteed

This is no AdSense Secret. It’s been said many, many, many, MANY times: Fewer Ads means higher earnings.

This is no AdSense Secret. It’s been said many, many, many, MANY times: Fewer Ads means higher earnings.

AdSense-Secret.jpgI’ve read this in so many places. But it always gets said by people claiming to make thousands of dollars a month. What about for the people just starting out? Well, even for the little guys, putting fewer AdSense ads on a site will increase the Cost per Click (CPC) of an ad.

Here’s my theory on that.

Google is out to make money. If you have 12 ads on your site, of course Google will try to put the high-paying ads on your page, but if it runs out of those, it will put what it can onto your page. Now you have to hope your visitors are clicking on a high-paying ad. BUT, if you put 3 WELL PLACED ads on your site, Google still tries to serve the high paying ads, and if a visitor clicks the ad, voila, you earn more (and GOOGLE earns more).

– Do I honestly think this works? DEFINITELY!
– How well? It increased the CPC of ads on one of my blogs by 10 to 20 times. Fair enough, this was from a VERY few cents, to NOT very few cents…

Share-AdSense-Secret.jpgSo, remember, you now have an AdSense Secret to success. But I think that if everybody followed this theory, EVERYBODY who uses AdSense would benefit. I mean, if you are only showing 3 high-paying ads, this would mean that those people bidding low amounts would have to “up” their bid to get viewed, meaning still more high-paying ads…

So, spread the word… This could be quite a secret to success for everybody.

Well, not really. But I could have just used the same title as the New York Times’ article “This Boring Headline Is Written for Google“. Which one catches your attention more?

And, which one has more relevance to this post? The second one, right? Meaning Google would probably rate this post higher if it’s title was more relevant.

The article on the New York Times website is all about how online news editors have to cater for Google and the SE Team’s algorithms when considering a headline for news articles nowadays. Which causes a bit of a dilemma – catch a reader’s attention, or get a reader via a relevant Search Engine Ranking…

JOURNALISTS over the years have assumed they were writing their headlines and articles for two audiences — fickle readers and nitpicking editors. Today, there is a third important arbiter of their work: the software programs that scour the Web, analyzing and ranking online news articles on behalf of Internet search engines like Google, Yahoo and MSN…

It seems online news editors really have their job cut out for them. And it seems that SEO is playing a major part in more and more areas of the online world. Oh well, life would be boring if it was easy.

Gambling is DEFINITELY Easy Money. But is it always safe money?

If you do a search on the internet, you’ll find a lot of sites talking about how playing poker online, and, generally ANY online gambling, is illegal. It does seem that this only affects residents of the USA, so, the rest of us can carry on with our online poker games, winning millions and millions of… Sorry, getting ahead of myself here.

USA Today has an article titled “Online poker games deal illegal hands” which says:

You’re playing with real money. You’ve paid for virtual betting chips via an escrow service. And, if you’re lucky enough to win, your account will be credited with money.

What’s wrong with this picture? It’s illegal, according to the Department of Justice.

Thousands of gambling Web sites operate offshore, conveniently beyond the grasp of U.S. regulation

Ok, so now we have off-shore gambling websites, allowing you to play your strip poker online. But why would it be illegal to PLAY poker with real money on the internet? Well, in 1961, an Act was written stating that it was illegal to accept bets over a “wire communication facility”, this being the telephone back then. But now, it means practically all methods of our modern day communication, including the internet.

Oh well, Easy Money can be hard to come by, sometimes…

An article that isn’t meant to teach you anything over at “SEO Book.com” actually has a few ideas on how to increase your income online. The main idea is to increase your online presence. Some ideas on doing this are:

  • Buy an established website – Not for the faint of heart or empty of pocket
  • Hire people to create TONS of content for multiple websites
  • Creating Social networks – Perhaps ANOTHER digg.com site??
  • Affiliate Marketing – An addition/alternative to PPC Advertising

I’m sure I’ll touch on these more at a later stage…

Beware of Click Fraud. Even the tiniest appearance of click fraud can get you banned from the AdSense program. Reading this article titled “The nonsense about AdSense” from the TimesOnline website is enough to make any AdSense publisher nervous.

Benjamin Cohen, the former teenaged dot.com millionaire, has run into a problem as he tries to make his next million: Google won’t pay him for ads run on his website

He has signed up a couple of times, even after being told he won’t be allowed to sign up again, and each time he has been banned due to click fraud. The fact that Google won’t tell him why they believe he (or someone else) is committing click fraud on his site is quite frustrating:

After a number of e-mails to Google without replies and no response from their press office, I decided to cut my losses and concentrate on selling advertising direct to clients, thereby bypassing Google’s system.

So, what do you do in a situation like this, when Google doesn’t respond to your queries, or, if your duspute is not resolved in your favour (which, I believe, does actually happen)? You could always do what this author and EX-AdSense-Publisher did:

In the end, I decided not to bother chasing Google any more for the couple of hundred pounds they owed my company or the cheques (totalling a further £1,500) I received well after the six-month deadline for banking a cheque. Instead, I decided to sign PinkNews up to Yahoo!’s pay per click programme, carefully noting the right to speak to a real human being, 24/7, if we were unhappy with the figures they provided
