Paid Surveys and Other Useless Money Making Ideas

Paid Surveys rarely work. In fact, I have yet to hear from a fellow South African who has made an income using it.

What if you could get rich doing something you love? Or, TALKING about something you love to talk about?

That’s roughly the idea I’m busy working on that I’m going to be sahring with all the subscribers to this site. My goal will be to help others get R40,000 cheques in the post as well. And yes, there’s something in it for me, but you won’t have to pay a single cent!

So, if you haven’t already, then SUBSCRIBE! 🙂

Anyway, here are a few of the other ways to try and earn an income that I don’t believe would work, or at least may not be worth the effort:

How to Make Easy Money

Doesn’t it just get so depressing seeing all these rich people driving around in their fancy sport cars, while you sit there in traffic in your old, beat up piece of rubbish, wondering why they aren’t suffering in this “super bad economy“?

I mean, everything just seems to go right for them.

Ok, by them, I mean us. Since I bought my new car (Mercedes Benz sports car), traffic lights are always green, traffic just seems to flow smoother, and parking spaces always seem to free up at the front when I arrive.

So, how do you afford the good life?

According to Yahoo! it looks like Bill Gates is not the richest man in the world anymore.

Shame, poor chap. He’s only the second richest man on the planet now. What is a man to do?

So, who’s the richest?

Forbes magazine has ranked Carlos Slim Helu as being richer than Bill Gates, making him number 1.

Bill Gates apparently has around 56 Billion dollars, which is a little more than I earn in a year. About 20 million times.

THAT is depressing.

Spending or investing your millions

So, what do you do if you’re just too rich and need something to spend your money on?

How about buying a Premier League football team. And how about making that team Blackburn Rovers?

So, what do you do if you’re just too rich and need something to spend your money on?

How about buying a Premier League football team. And how about making that team Blackburn Rovers?

That’s what Johan Rupert, member of the world’s 207th riches families is planning on doing, according to Fin24.

Blackburn Rovers are the latest English Premiership side to come under the scrutiny of foreign ownership, press reports said on Friday.

The Sun reported that South African billionaire Johann Rupert had teamed up with the owner of NFL team Miami Dolphins to piece together a potential bid for the Lancashire side.

I have no interest in soccer or football, but I would LOVE to be able to spend the money required to buy a football team. It would mean I could spend it on practically anything.

What would you spend R3 Billion on?

I was just surfing the web and I noticed this website: “The best 100 money tips ever!

They’ve got some REALLY good tips for saving and earning money, and if you can read all the way through the article, I’m sure you’ll learn something. It might even be good to print it all out and make yourself some reading material for the bath.

Of course, some of them are really obvious:

58. Don’t fly now, pay later. It is very depressing to be still paying for a holiday (or any other luxury) five years later, when you want another.

57. Beware of plastic. Store cards and credit cards may be convenient, but they are also an easy way of running up debt.

Some of these money tips were probably told to you by your grand father:

1. Save 10 cents from every R1 you earn. If you put away at least 10 percent of your income as part of a long-term savings plan, there is a good chance that you will have a financially secure future and be able to attain your financial goals.

But there are some that I haven’t heard before:

13. A product offering a range of underlying investment product choices, such as a wide collection of unit trust funds, is often not in your best interests and may come at additional cost. Be very cautious if anyone recommends that you invest in a linked investment product with a wide selection of underlying investment choices. Remember that linked investment products come in many forms and are also offered by life assurance companies. The simpler and cheaper solution may be to invest in a properly diversified unit trust fund, such as an asset allocation fund that offers underlying investments in all the main asset classes, such as cash, bonds and shares.

66. Always have a lawyer check a property deed of sale before you sign up. Also make a deed of sale subject to conditions such as a proper inspection being done, if you suspect building faults, and to raising a mortgage bond, if you need one.

80. Do not take out a life assurance investment contract for more than 10 years. You don’t know how your financial position could change. At the end of the period you can always extend the contract, but if you have to cut it short, there are penalties involved that could see you getting back less money than you paid in. The main reason life assurance sales people attempt to get you to take out longer-term policies is because they receive more commission.

A review of Debt Consolidation News

At first sight, this website looks a little plain. But, at a closer look, you’ll see that they’ve actually focused more on the content than on the design. For example, the article “How to Negotiate with Creditors to Avoid Bankruptcy” has a word count of almost 1,700 words. And with gems like the following, you’ll see there is a lot of helpful information you can use to improve your lifestyle:

Money magazine reported sometime ago that 90 percent of all bankruptcies could be avoided with an added monthly income of just $250.

If you owe a large amount and feel you’re sinking into the black hole of debt, a budget is not the only change you need to implement. One alternative is DEBT CONSOLIDATION. This option works if you have multiple debts with multiple lenders, all at varying interest rates.

Due to the amount of info, the category pages tend to load quite slowly for those not on broadband connections, so breaking up the info might help in this regard, perhaps having snippets on each Category page, leading off to the rest of the article. Not only would this help the page load time, but might actually give a better user experience, with users being able to see at a glance whether there is an interesting article they would like to read.

Perhaps having a navigable sitemap page would help.

Enough about possible improvements. As I’ve said, there are a lot of articles that you will find interesting. With info on paying off your loans if you’re a student, to tips on cutting back your costs if you’re a business owner, there will definitely be something you can learn from the site.

OUTsurance – South African Helpers?

In my original post about OUTsurance I spoke about how OUTsurance managed to save me R400 a month with my Insurance Premiums.

In my original post about OUTsurance I spoke about how OUTsurance managed to save me R400 a month with my Insurance Premiums. As I say in that post, I recommend that you get a free quote from them just to see if you can also save. Click here to get your OUTsurance quote.

Anyway, the reason for this post is just to say that I REALLY appreciate the whole “Mobile Pointsman” initiative. Here’s an excerpt from the news article on the OUTsurance website:

Click here nowThe project is an extension of Project Traffic Freeflow launched in September last year which, to date, has seen the introduction of 22 fixed pointsmen placed at high traffic volume intersections in and around Johannesburg.

In the second phase of the plan, 10 Mobile Pointsmen will be made available on motorcycles in an effort to further alleviate the city’s congested roads. These Mobile Pointsmen will predominantly focus on the Midrand, Sandton, Fourways and Randburg regions. They will be deployed to intersections where traffic signals are malfunctioning due to power outages and accidents.

I’ve seen these guys in action, and even though a lot of people complain about the apparent incompetence of pointsmen, I still think they can be a thousand times better than waiting at traffic lights that don’t function correctly…

So, another one up for OUTsurance in my opinion.

Virgin-Money-South-Africa.gifVirgin has just released Virgin Money in South Africa. Virgin is a company with an excellent public image, and this is a GREAT thing to happen for numerous reasons, the 4 main reasons being:

Standard Bank
ABSA
Nedbank
FNB

What do I mean by this? Well, these are the major banks in South Africa, and probably 4 of the biggest con-artists, charging customers RIDICULOUS amounts just to gain access to THEIR OWN MONEY!

Anyway, on a more serious note, here are some of the benefits of using Virgin Money (as found on their website):

  • You have 25 days in which to pay for anything you’ve bought before you are charged interest
  • The interest rate is only 15.75% – as opposed to 17% for ANY other credit cards in the country (South Africa)
  • If you have a Credit Balance, you will earn 5% on that money – ALSO the highest Credit Interest Rates on most savings and Investment accounts
  • No Annual Credit Card fee
  • No fees when you swipe your card
  • No Internet Banking fees

So, do YOU think this is worth it??? You can leave a comment below

Credit Card Investment

The other day, while reading my American Express (AMEX) credit card statement, I noticed that Credit Interest Rates on the card were set at 4.5% for anything under R1 MILLION.

Now, I’m not sure about all other Investment Accounts, but I have a 32 Notice Account, and this account only has a 4.25% interest rate. Which means that, putting money on my credit card will earn me more than if I INVESTED it!!! AND I wouldn’t have to wait 32 days before being able to use it.

If I put my money into my Amex Card, I would earn more money, and have access to it immediately. It’s not my Primary Credit Card so I could just keep this card locked away at home until I needed the money.

I’d love to hear your thoughts on this, though… Please leave a comment at the bottom of this page.

Credit Cards, Internet Banking and Bank Charges

This is the first in a series of posts on how you can use your credit card to make money.

Remember, saving money is also making money, and this first piece of advice on using your credit card will save you some money.

Here is something I do that maybe EVERYBODY does, but I find it EXTREMELY helpful to save some money. To do this, all you need is a Credit Card like the “Discovery Credit Card“, a bank account with a fixed monthly fee (i.e. a certain number of free transactions a month) and free Internet Banking.

If you get a few free transactions with your bank account, at the beginning of EVERY month, log into your bank account with Internet Banking, transfer whatever amount you think you can afford to spend (and what you THINK you will spend in cash) onto your credit card. In South Africa, the “Discovery Card” does not charge you per transaction (except for Petrol charges). This means that, instead of drawing money at the ATM every time you need money, you can use the available credit on your credit card as cash by paying with the credit card instead.

Not only will this save you money and TIME by you not having to use the ATM, you will also be able to monitor where you are spending your “cash”.
