So, I’ve been running a few Affiliate campaigns with South African Affiliate Marketing Companies for a few months now, and here’s what I’ve found:

Traffic Synergy

Pros

- A LOT of companies that you can run affiliate offers for. And not just South African companies.
- Statistics are easy enough to see
- You get assigned an Affiliate Manager who should be EXTREMELY friendly and helpful… You can ask them anything, almost any time of the day.
- They offer a South African Ringtone affiliate campaign with Jamster (see the banner above).

Cons

I don’t really have any cons at the moment… Do you?

ZA OfferForge

Pros

- The companies that are running Affiliate Offers through ZA OfferForge (do I really need to say the “ZA”?) have great payouts
- You get frequent updates via newsletters or general emails
- They seem to use the same system as TrafficSynergy, so the system will be familiar

Cons

- I’ve mailed for assistance twice. First time I had a GREAT response. Second time I didn’t get ANY response, but the issue was resolved
- There aren’t THAT many companies offering Affiliate Programs through ZA OfferForge

Do you use or know of another company that you would like to recommend?

Step 1 in affiliate marketing is understanding what an affiliate actually is. When I refer to affiliate marketing, I will refer to an affiliate as someone who partners with a merchant of some sorts, sending that merchant potential customers and/or leads, in return for a commission. You could earn a percentage of a sale, or a flat fee for the lead.

For example, if you were an Amazon.com affiliate, you would try and send a customer to the Amazon website. Then, if this customer makes a purchase, you could earn a percentage of that purchase as commission.

This all sounds simple enough. But, sometimes, a customer doesn’t even need to make a purchase. For example, I am an affiliate for Outsurance, a South African Insurance company. In this post, “OUTsurance saved me R400 a month“, I talk about how the Insurance Company Outsurance saved me money. It’s a true story, so I thought I’d put it up. And, if you view that article, you will see an ad for Outsurance. For me to earn a commission, all a visitor to my site has to do is ask for a free quote. That’s all. And then I’ll get paid.

Amazingly easy way to make money, isn’t it?

Affiliate marketing is almost easy money.

Why is it Easy Money?
Generally, if done right, you can earn a LOT of money.

Why the ALMOST?
There is a little bit of work and a few requirements to earning this money…

Surfing the internet, you will generally see 2 types of advertising. Pay-per-click (PPC) advertising and Cost-per-action (CPA) advertising.

PPC is what Google Adsense does currently, which is display ads, and pay you, the website owner, a certain amount of money every time somebody clicks an ad. This really makes it the easiest of ways to advertise, as it is just a case of you putting up a website with useful and helpful content, and placing Google’s ads on your site.

CPA is different in that you ONLY get paid when a user clicks your ad, and fulfils a requirement on the site that they go to, such as completing a purchase.

But, a BIG difference between the 2: CPA commision tends to be a percentage of a purchase, so if your site visitor clicks a CPA ad and goes and buys something on the other site for $200, you might get $20 just for sending them there. Now, imagine sending 1000 visitors to buy something every month!

I am a member at “<a href="http://www.makingeasymoney.co.za/goto/affiliate-network/offerforge"title="OfferForge Network" target="_blank">OfferForge“, a South African affiliate company, and through this I can sign up to a few local affiliate programs. In the next couple of articles, I’m going to try and show you how easy it should be to be an affiliate marketer in South Africa (and, the rest of the world).

For a list of affiliate companies I use in South Africa, read this page:
